Barn Conversions
Barn Conversions
We have been involved with barn conversions in the South West for over 15 years and in that time have seen planning policy become more restrictive - especially in relation to residential conversions.
Planning policy in most areas requires that a similar sequence of events is followed before any approval can be considered:
- Firstly it has to be shown that the building is agriculturally redundant, and,
- It has to be structurally capable of being converted without substantial re-building.
If the intended use is residential the final hurdle is to demonstrate that conversion for business use or tourism is not viable.
If the barn has the added complexity of being listed then further restrictions will often apply.
