We were commsioned to design a two-storey fully glazed extension, utilising the existing undercrofts of a dormer bungalow and undertake the alteration and extension of the existing roof to provide additional bedroom accomodation. The design of the rear extension was informed by the stunning views to the rear of the property, whilst the roof alterations took a sleak contemporary form, designed in black standing seam zinc, intended to appear as a 'POD' structure over the existing flat garage roof.
The project has involved the excavation of the undercrofts to provide additional room height, the demolision of a 8 metre section of the rear wall to the property and the formation of 14meter open plan living area. The construction has required the installation of a 2 storey structural scaffold to support the existing roof structure untill the permanent structural steel frame forming the rear extension was installed.
Following the installation of the steel frame the existing floors and roof were fully supported by the new structure.
Thermally broken Aluminimum window and bi-fold door panels were installed into the frame and a level floor finish between the interior and exterior space provides the house with a link to its stunning surroundings.
