We were appointed to produce a feasibilty study for the extension of an existing 12 Bed Care Home. We were tasked with exploring the possibility of providing an additional nine bedrooms with associated day space and sanitary facilities complying with current care standards.
The design is concieved a lightweight construction as it is partially built over the existing building at ground floor. A staggered plan has been adopted, firstly to work with the tapering site and secondly to provide opportunities to light the new rooms and provide views from two directions.
A contemporary approach has been adopted to distinguish the additions and alterations from the existing Victorian Villa; whilst allowing more flexibility to respond to the surrounding buildings in terms overlooking and over-shadowing.
